Adax announces Next Generation Network high density narrowband controller offering industry's highest link density

Support for multiple signaling protocols on the same card

3GSM World Congress, Cannes, France, 25 February 2004: Adax has announced a high density signaling controller for Next Generation Networks that offers the industry’s highest possible link density of 128 channels per card. The new HDCII card, which is specifically designed for the high demands of wireless, wireline and converging PSTN/IP network platforms, is available in both PMC and PCI versions and can run multiple protocols including SS7 and SIGTRAN on the same card. Its superior density and high performance makes it particularly suitable for narrowband and SS7 over IP telecommunications applications that require high capacity and throughput.

The HDCII card features a 733 MHz RISC processor that offers a three-fold increase in performance, compared to the current Adax HDC product, while maintaining minimal load on the host CPU. This maximises the performance of network applications for customers without compromising reliability. With the ability to install multiple boards in one system, the card provides a totally scalable, flexible and cost-effective solution.

The high density of the HDCII and its ability to run large volumes of network traffic makes it perfect for narrowband signaling between 3G SGSN, HLR/VLR and Mobile Switching centers in the core network. The card’s excellent performance with large numbers of small transactions means that it is particularly appropriate for HLRs that need to support an increasing number of subscribers.

The board is dynamically configurable, per port and per channel, and supports multiple protocols including SS7 MTP2 (64k and 2Mbit), SCTP, LAPB/D/V5, Frame Relay X.25 and HDLC on all 128 channels over four T1/E1 ports. The HDCII-PCI version also includes two 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports, while up to two HDCII-PMC cards can be mounted on a Single Board Computer (SBC) and configured as a compactPCI Signaling Blade. These different features make both versions ideal for Signaling Gateways and Media Gateway Controllers.

The HDCII card is an entirely future-proof solution due to the commonality of the APIs between Adax software products and customer applications. This protects the customer’s signaling infrastructure investment as SS7 only solutions can be quickly and easily IP enabled or migrated to a broadband SS7 or SS7/IP solution with minimal changes to the higher software stack layers.
