Gateway to the Future:
SS7 over IP Signaling in Converging Networks
On March 10, 1876, it’s doubtful that Alexander Graham Bell
imagined what would become of the technology he had perfected; wires
across the ocean, wires around the world, and signals bouncing off
satellites. Communication by voice, video, and text is available
nearly everywhere, all the time. Nearly.
To progress from nearly to always, one must understand the meaning
of “convergence” in today’s communications networks...more
IP Signaling Infrastructures: What can David learn from Goliath?
The telco signaling world will eventually be IP-networked, but there
are major questions over how, or even if, this can be achieved effectively.
Robin Kent, director of European Operations at signaling gateway & solutions
provider Adax, believes smaller wireless operators and Multi-Vendor
Network Operators (MVNOs) must start to learn from their more progressive
wireline counterparts - many of whom have already taken sizeable
steps toward an entirely IP based infrastructure - or face the consequences.
Unless they act now, infrastructure costs will rise, revenue opportunities
will diminish or be missed and their days will be numbered...more

“The one constant in life is change”
Migrating from SS7 to IP means keeping your options open
When the IP revolution kicked off over five years ago it took the
telecommunications world by storm. Some Operators acted quickly to
ensure legacy SS7 networks could interface with the new arrival,
but this was the extent of their preparations for the future, and
many did nothing.
Five years on and the lack of preparation continues to haunt them
and now it could cost them. Contrary to predictions, IP...more
TO IP OR NOT TO IP……..?
There is no doubt that the whole telco world will eventually be
IP-networked, but getting to that point requires complete migration
from current SS7 infrastructure - a gradual transition which cannot
be achieved overnight.
Despite this, some smaller operators are trying to embark on this
migration in one giant leap, whilst others only have plans in place
to IP-network part of their global infrastructure...more
